Ken Huisman

My interest in reed instruments began in grade school with the saxophone.  In high school I mastered the double-reeded bassoon and began to pursue clarinet.  My early influences were Benny Goodman, Stan Getz, Ben Webster and Bobby Hackett.

In the early 60's I took a job with Carl Fischer Musical Instrument Co. in the repair department.  It was then that I embraced the clarinet and began performing with local jazz combos and diversified musical groups.  After 40 years in the industry, I am a seasoned repair technician with Meyer Music Co. but my love is still performance - Jazz, R&B, Pop and classical.

I have performed with:
* The Grand Rapids Pops Orchestra
* The Grand Rapids Symphony
* National Guard Band
* Calvin College Alumni Orchestra
and a myriad of jazz and swing ensembles over the years

I am proud to have performed with notables such as:
* Arthur Fiedler
* Ray price
* Boots Randolph

I play clarinet, saxophone and trumpet
"A Sentimental Journey".

Life is "A Sentimental Journey"
